When I tell people I’m a music contractor, they usually don’t know what that means. Contractors are thought of as people who build things, and that’s what I do. I build orchestras. A “building contractor” takes the design of the architect and brings it to reality. He/she hires and oversees the plumbers, the electricians, the masons, the dry wallers, and others to complete the vision of the architect. With awareness of the skills of each musician, I take the requirements of the composer and the show’s music director and hire the woodwinds, the brass, the strings, the percussion, and the keyboardists, to bring the notes on the page to reality. And that’s what a music contractor does.

Summer is upon us, and while we might be experiencing temperatures in the 90s, we’re also able to visit the numerous Farmers Markets and neighborhood concerts that make summer enjoyable. On the morning of Saturday, July 3rd, stop by the Jeffersontown Farmers’ Market and listen to Louisville’s favorite folksinger/songwriter John Gage. John will perform 9:00 – noon. Pick up some fresh produce, breads, and crafts while you’re there. (Watterson Trail just west of Taylorsville Rd.)
